The anime is originally based on a light novel series, but this series has manga itself. The anime is based on the franchise created by Asa Rokushima, with both the original novel and manga credited on the official anime website. The novel and manga differ significantly in their stories, so it is too early to say which version the anime will primarily follow.
The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life (known in Japanese as Chii Fuyo) Original Web Novel Written by Asa Rokushima, it first started releasing for free on the online platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2021. Due to the web version’s success, Kodansha began publishing it as an official print light novel with illustrations by Kisui starting in January 2022.
A manga version illustrated by Mochi Gyōmuyō launched in October 2021. The manga became incredibly popular because it heavily into a chaotic, funny, and unique art style. The story follows Rein Garland, a enchanter and support mage who spent years his adventuring guild. Rein’s special magic allows him to cast permanent buffs (stat multipliers and power enhancements) onto his teammates armor, weapons, and even their physical bodies. Despite his massive contributions, his arrogant guildmates completely believing that he does no real fighting, so they kick him out of the party to avoid splitting the loot. Angry and betrayed, Rein decides to take back everything he ever gave them.
He invokes a hidden clause in his magic: he completely revokes every single enchantment point he ever placed on his former guild’s gear. The ex-party members’ top-tier gear instantly degrades into useless junk, leaving them weak and vulnerable. All of those high-level cheat stats back directly into Rein himself. He applies these massive multipliers to his own basic, everyday equipment. Instantly transformed from a weak support mage into an absolute, god-level powerhouse, Rein refuses to save the world or seek bloody vengeance.
Instead, he decides to use his newfound, overpowered status to live a completely carefree, Rein started second life where he becomes a solo adventurer, and effortlessly smashing high-level monsters, making a good moeny and building a loyal new party filled with powerful companions who actually appreciate his talents.
