The Wound & Bandage (Kizuguchi to Hōtai) anime is officially scheduled to premiere in January 2027. The anime’s first key visual has been released. Additional promotional videos and trailers are expected to be revealed closer to the January 2027 premiere.

Manga

The original manga, titled Kizuguchi to Hōtai (Wound & Bandage), is written and illustrated by Umihoshi Nanai. It started as a standalone one-shot comic in Kodansha’s Monthly Magazine Base in February 2024. It transitioned into a full-time serialized series in August 2024 on Kodansha’s Comic DAYS digital platform. As of mid-2026, 4 book volumes have been officially published in Japan. And the manga is ongoing and actively publishing new chapters online.

Wound & Bandage Anime Story

Wound & Bandage (Kizuguchi to Hōtai) is a romantic comedy that mixes dark underworld yakuza politics. The story follows Kiriya Kiritani, a young, tough, loyal yakuza gang leader. And he is given a high-stakes assignment by his organization act as the personal bodyguard and caretaker for Riyo Washizu. Riyo is the daughter of a legendary, incredibly powerful yakuza godfather who controls the entire Kanto region. Kiriya expects to protect a Riyo girl from rival gangs, but he quickly discovers that Riyo is far from normal.

Riyo has a deep, shameful secret she defines herself as a Yowarer which means a coined term meaning weak-lover. She is completely indifferent to traditional romance, but she becomes intensely flustered, and physically aroused whenever she sees Typically strong, invincible men looking completely vulnerable. To Riyo, the tough and constantly fighting yakuza leader Kiriya is her absolute dream man but only when he is getting beaten up or hurt.

The comedy from their daily interactions Riyo constantly, hilariously tries to engineer situations where Kiriya gets slightly injured, wears medical gauze, or looks physically weak just so she can admire him. The Bodyguard Kiriya takes his job seriously and tries to stay completely professional, but unfortnalty he is forced into embarrassing setups to satisfy her whims while keeping her safe from actual danger.
