Manga Update: Akane-banashi The anime is based on the manga written by Yuki Suenaga and illustrated by Takamasa Moue. The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2022. And the manga is still ongoing. As of June 2026, there are 22 volumes released and the manga’s popularity is also very high. The manga has surpassed 3.5 million copies in circulation (print and digital) as of May 2026. And that’s not all, the manga has received some awards. Akane-banashi Season 2 Story

The story is about Akane Osaki, a high school girl who dreams of becoming a shinuchi (top-ranking master) in the world of rakugo. But in reality, her main motive is to avenge her father, who was controversially expelled from the Arakawa School by Master Issho Arakawa during his promotion exam 6 years ago. Season 1: Focused on Akane’s early training and her participation in the amateur Karaku Cup to prove her skill. Season 2: Follows the story of Akane completing her professional training as a formal apprentice (zenza) under Shiguma Arakawa.
